MSI's 800-series MAX motherboards will receive a new BIOS feature called "PBO BCLK" booster, which boosts performance on AMD Ryzen CPUs.

MSI's New PBO BCLK Booster BIOS Feature Delivers Up To 15% Gaming Improvement On 800-Series Motherboards, Tuned For AM5 AMD Ryzen CPUs

MSI's AM5 800-series motherboards have been getting some nice BIOS features since their launch. The manufacturer has brought features such as X3D Gaming Mode, Latency Killer, X3D Optimal Settings, 256 GB DDR5 capacities, Faster Memory Support, and even support for new Ryzen CPUs. MSI also launched its brand new "MAX" series motherboards, which feature cool features such as BCLK generators, 64 MB BIOS size, and new design schemes. This, along with support for next-gen "Zen 6" CPUs, has also been laid out.

Now taking advanced of the BCLK generators on its "MAX" 800-series motherboards, MSI is going to introduce a brand new feature called "PBO BCLK Booster". This feature is not only supported by "MAX" series motherboards but also supported on the B850MPOWER and high-end MEG X870E GODLIKE series motherboards.

With "PBO BCLK Booster", MSI gives users the ability to tune their AMD Ryzen CPUs for higher gaming & application performance. This is achieved through a one-click profile, which can be enabled through the BIOS. Each motherboard will have two profiles, PBO BCLK Booster 1 & PBO BCLK Booster 2. Since BCLK adjustment is essentially overclocking the CPU, it can lead to better performance, but may also incur an instability factor, which is highlighted by MSI.

Looking at some gaming performance figures, MSI has claimed up to 15% faster performance. Versus a stock-configured AMD Ryzen CPU on the same MSI motherboards. MSI has further included its DDR5 Tuning feature, which is set to DDR5-6000 "Tighter" profile. This lower timing configuration, coupled with the new PBO BCLK Booster tune, enables up to 6% better performance in Cyberpunk 2077, 5% uplift in Metro Exodus, 7% uplift in Far Cry 6, and 15% uplift in DOOM: The Dark Ages.

The good thing is that PBO BCLK Booster can be enabled alongside MSI's X3D Gaming Mode feature for even better performance. Depending on the CPU, the profiles will be different. For example, in the case of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the BCLK will be adjusted to 103 MHz in Profile 1 and 105 MHz in Profile 2. Besides this, the CPU voltage will be kept on Auto when enabling the PBO BCLK Booster profiles. This means that the CPUs will be deciding the voltage behavior.

Overall, it's another interesting add-on from MSI for its 800-series "MAX" motherboards, enabling faster performance on AMD's Ryzen 9000/7000 CPUs. Users can now take advantage of their motherboards ' features, such as BCLK generators, which would otherwise remain untouched if you don't want to put in the extra time in manual overclocking or tuning.

For those who want to try out the new MSI PBO BCLK Booster feature, it is available in BETA within the AGESA 1.2.0.3G BIOS release, and an official introduction is expected with the 1.2.7.0 release.
