China's first domestic DDR5 memory by ChangXin Memory Technology (CXMT) gets support on MSI B860 motherboards.
China's Domestic CXMT DDR5 Memory Can Reach up to 6800 MT/s With Four Module Configuration on MSI's B860 Chipset Motherboards
MSI's recently introduced B860 motherboards for Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors boast even better memory compatibility than before. Apart from supporting highly overclocked memories from major vendors, many of these MSI B860 motherboards are now optimized for China's domestically manufactured DDR5 memories.
The Chinese publication Sina reports that with a new BIOS, MSI's B860 models, such as MAG B860 Tomahawk WiFi, MAG B860M Mortar WiFi, and Pro B860M-A WiFi, can now support ChangXin Memory Technology's DDR5 memory to offer high memory speeds. While higher-end 800-chipset motherboards mostly focus on high frequencies at 2x DIMM configuration, the latest BIOS optimization will allow up to 4x DIMM configuration at a DDR5 memory speed of up to 6800 MT/s.
The latest optimizations will now offer good compatibility with DXMT DDR5 memory that is produced locally in China and is among the first to get official support from a major vendor like MSI. It's reported that the memory chips do not use the most advanced process node due to sanctions by the USA, but it's still decent enough for satisfactory performance.
The memory chips used on DXMT DDR5 memory modules will be 40% larger than memory chips produced by Samsung and Micron, but it is now viable to manufacture smaller chips in the future. However, it is still a bit costlier for the domestic memory makers, but with higher production, the overall cost can be reduced significantly.
With such a move, more memory makers can expect to enter the market locally, and it's possible that more motherboard makers will offer great support for domestically produced memory.
