China's Montage Technology, a domestic chip provider, has launched its new C6P server CPUs with up to 86 cores, which are rebadged Intel Granite Rapids Xeon chips.
Intel Granite Rapids "Xeon 6P" CPUs Rebadged By Montage Technology As "C6P" Series For China's Domestic Server Market
It won't be the first time that Montage Technology has rebadged Intel's Xeon CPUs and offered them with their labels in China's domestic server segment. Their last offerings were rebadged Emerald Rapids & Sierra Forest parts, and now, the company has its new "C6P" series out, which essentially rebadges the Intel Granite Rapids or Xeon 6P lineup.
As per the presser released by Montage Technology, the C6P series server processors are the 6th generation Jintai Performance Core CPU. The company says that the C6P series utilizes an advanced architecture design, which we know is based on Intel's Redwood Cove P-Core architecture, which is utilized by Meteor Lake CPUs too.

Montage technology seems to have selected the Intel Xeon 6700P series for its rebadging work, which scales up to 86 cores, 172 threads, and packs an impressive 336 MB of L3 cache. The company hasn't (yet) rebadged the higher-end Xeon 6900P series, which scales up to 128 cores, 256 threads, and 504 MB of L3 cache.

Other features of Montage Technology's or Intel's Granite Rapids Xeon CPUs include support on both single and dual-socket systems, utilize up to four UPI interconnects with a maximum bandwidth of 24 GT/s, enable 8-channel DDR5 memory support with up to 6400 MT/s speeds (RDIMMs) and 8000 MT/s speeds (MRDIMMs). The processors also offer up to 88 PCIe 5.0 lanes with CXL 2.0.
For those who were already running Intel's Sierra Forest or the previous Montage chips, the upgrade to the new C6P series will be seamless, as they are socket/pin compatible. The following is what the president of Montage Technology has to say:
"The launch of C6P marks a dual breakthrough in balancing high-performance computing and security needs. This product not only continues the familiar X86 development ecosystem, but also provides customers with a cost-effective option through security modules and customized performance tuning, helping to accelerate the digital transformation of critical industry infrastructure."

Given that Montage Technology has been releasing and rebadging Intel Xeon CPUs for a while, it looks like they are collaborating with Intel in some form; otherwise, they wouldn't have had the freedom to do what they are doing, as in rebadging a major tech company's chips. It looks like China's domestic server market is more open to chips that are offered by a localized company than to purchasing them directly from Intel. It might have something to do with import or local government policies, but at least in this way, Intel continues to sell its Xeon chips.
