Following the trailer reveal, developer Infinity Ward dropped a lot of information on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 yesterday.

On the technical front, being the first game in the series to drop PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the developers promised expanded scale and density, as well as improved responsiveness and consistency across every available mode. Modern Warfare 4 players will experience larger combat spaces, more active maps, clearer engagements, and more consistent performance.

The updated engine also delivers a significant leap forward in graphics quality thanks to industry-leading visual effects, lighting, materials, and character rendering. Everything from explosions and smoke to atmospherics and character detail has been improved in Modern Warfare 4 over previous Call of Duty installments.

Infinity Ward also boasted a renewed focus on the PC platform in collaboration with sister studio Beenox. The PC version will support NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and other upscaling and frame generation options, while game-specific performance optimizations are designed to support a wide range of PC hardware. There will be more graphics options available to give players maximum control over how their game looks and performs; there are also pre-tuned, competitive-focused settings for those who want to ensure performance is always flawless. On the other hand, PC gamers may also maximize visuals thanks to expanded ray tracing across all modes (Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ), including ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, and shadows, and higher-fidelity VFX and volumetrics compared to other platforms.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is also the first game since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts to launch on a Nintendo platform, the Switch 2. You might be wondering how it'll perform there, since the Switch 2 is the weakest system it'll be released on. Well, Infinity Ward Co-Studio Head Jack O'Hara told Gamesradar it's been a smooth ride for the team:

It's been smooth, to be honest. Things just work. The game got up and running on the platform really quickly once we got the hardware. So far, it's been really good. To be honest, it's been really fun to be on a new platform.

O'Hara also revealed that Infinity Ward is currently testing Modern Warfare 4 on the Switch 2 with cross-play enabled, but a decision on whether the final version will also support this functionality has yet to be made.

The game will launch on October 23 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch 2.
