[UPDATE] The official Call of Duty account has now confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 while also revealing the first trailer.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is likely coming shortly. As we get closer to the big announcement, more details are emerging. Main developer Infinity Ward recently shut down a rumor that the game would also appear on the old generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), and later boasted that they are making the "definitive Modern Warfare" experience for this year's release, which will "push every detail and system" to the limit.

Yesterday, leaker billbil-kun even leaked the game's cover art, which indirectly supports its imminent reveal. On top of that, renowned insider Nate the Hate confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be the first installment in 13 years to land on a Nintendo console, the Switch 2.

The best-selling first-person shooter series has avoided Nintendo systems since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, which launched on the Wii U (the port was handled by Treyarch). However, as you might remember, in February 2023, Microsoft signed a deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty back to Nintendo consoles. This was part of Microsoft's strenuous efforts to convince the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to clear the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Dataminers had already spotted new references to Nintendo platforms in Call of Duty HQ updates. It'll be interesting to see how much of an appetite there really is for the franchise.

According to rumors, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set on the Korean Peninsula, and the title itself will be officially stylized as Modern Warfare 사, using the Korean numeral for "four" as a nod to that setting. Story-wise, it's said to directly follow Modern Warfare 3, continuing the conflict with Makarov and the Konni Group. The tone is reportedly aiming for the shock value of the 2019 MW reboot, with a darker, more morally compromised Task Force 141.

The release window is reportedly October, in a bid to launch well in advance of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled for November 19. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will also be the first installment since Microsoft's purchase of Activision to not be available on Game Pass at launch, following Microsoft's decision to slash the subscription service's price while also removing brand-new Call of Duty games from the library.
