Imitation is often regarded as the best form of flattery. If that statement were true, one can't help but assume that Xiaomi is smitten by Apple. Time and again, Xiaomi has 'been inspired' by a lot of Apple's work. Today, it appears that the company is mimicking another one of Apple's creation—the Memeoji. Xiaomi just introduced the Mimoji, a not-so-subtle rendition on Memojis (via Endgadget). Take a look and decide for yourselves.
On the iPhone, users can create and customize their Memoji and then send them as videos or stickers in Messages, and it appears that Xiaomi's Mimoji will act in a similar fashion. Now, there's nothing wrong with the concept of personalised 3D Avatars. They've been around for a long time and have been used by just about everyone in the industry ranging from Samsung to Microsoft on a variety of devices. It's just that the two bear an uncanny resemblance and even sound alike.
The Mimojis were released alongside the MiCC9 and CC9e (the CC stands for “Champion Conquest”, for those who are curious) Both devices are your run of the mill mid-range smartphones. The CC9 has a Snapdragon 710 chip, a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel, 6GB of RAM, a triple-camera rear setup (48MP main, an 8MP wide-angle and 2MP depth-of-field) and a 32-megapixel front camera. The CC9e has a 6.1-inch display, a Snapdragon 665 paired with 4GB of RAM and the same camera configuration. There's a special Meitu Edition of the CC9 that comes with 8GB of RAM and 'custom-tuned' cameras.
Last year, Xiaomi launched their version of Animojis on the Mi 8, which in itself looked like an iPhone X clone. And last but not the least, there is the Xiaomi Airdots, an AirPods clone. At least they didn't call them Mi Pods. Xiaomi probably would have, had the name not been taken by a vapouriser.
