The latest Windows 11 Release Preview build shows what to expect in the next feature drop, and it will mostly include taskbar updates.
Windows 11's New Taskbar Improvements Bring a Built-in Speed Test and Other Enhancements
Microsoft has rolled out its latest Windows 11 builds 26100.7918 and 26200.7918 to the Release Preview Channel, which has confirmed various refinements in the OS. As per the blog post, Microsoft is testing a new wave of updates for the Windows 11 taskbar as well as for the core experience in general in the Release Preview Channel.

One of the most convenient and useful additions for everyday users is the addition of a built-in internet speed test that is integrated directly into the taskbar. This means users will be able to check the internet connection performance without needing a third-party app or any external website. With the Windows 11 builds 26100.7918 and 26200.7918 (KB5077241) roll out, Microsoft will allow users to access this feature by either:
- Right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar's system tray, or
- Opening the WiFi or cellular quick settings

After the utility is launched, the test opens in the default web browser that can be used for measuring Ethernet, WiFi, or cellular internet speeds quickly. This might look like a minor update, but it can be highly helpful in diagnosing connectivity issues or checking the network performance instantly. That said, Microsoft has also made several smaller refinements to the taskbar behavior.
When using uncombined taskbar buttons, apps that have multiple open windows no longer move all the instances into the overflow at once. So, only windows that exceed the available taskbar space are placed into the overflow to make the overflow area more accurate and useful. According to the update changelog, KB5077241 brings several other enhancements beyond the taskbar, such as Native Sysmon support, Camera pan and tilt controls, Refinements to start menu layout, and various fixes in File Explorer and system components.
