This morning, KONAMI Digital Entertainment announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has surpassed two million units sold as of February 17, 2026, as shown in the celebratory screenshot. The game became a million seller on day one when it launched on Thursday, August 28, merely on the heels of pre-orders.
The game took 173 days to get to the second million, though, which isn't great. Still, the fact that KONAMI bothered to send out a press release about it means they must be reasonably happy with the figure. It all depends on the budget of the game; we know that KONAMI was assisted by Virtuos (the same studio behind The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered) and even PlatinumGames (which handled the "secret" mode Snake's Nightmare, a third-person action sequence which becomes available once the game has been saved after Snake has been captured and imprisoned).
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the 2004 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, was well-received by critics and gamers. It earned a 9.4 out of 10 score in Wccftech's review written by Kai Tatsumoto:
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the de facto perfect way to experience the rise and fall of Big Boss. Each detail has been meticulously refined and brought to modern standards while leaving nothing behind in the past. While this also means retaining both the campiness and jank, there’s no better way to experience the first Metal Gear Solid title in the timeline.
Presumably, KONAMI will try to remake another Metal Gear Solid classic entry next, though no plans have officially been announced. Meanwhile, later this year, the Japanese publisher will release METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.2, which includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD Collection version). This will be the first time either game is available on a non-PlayStation console: Guns of the Patriots was only available on PlayStation 3, while Peace Walker only launched on the PlayStation Portable.
METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.2 will be released on August 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series S|X.
