MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Brings The Fight To Qualcomm’s Mid-Range Offerings With Generative AI And More

Nov 21, 2023 at 04:34am EST

It seems like the race to bring generative AI to more and more phones is going strong. The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is finally here, with the biggest selling point being that it brings generative AI to a very popular mid-range segment that will be powering a lot of devices in the future. This seems like an excellent chipset for anyone not too keen on spending money on the flagship Dimensity 9300-powered device.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 brings generative AI to mid-range phones with a number of other CPU and GPU improvements.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is built on a second-generation 4nm process. The CPU offers a single Cortex-A715 core clocked at 3.35GHz. We also have three Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 3GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores at 2.2GHz. MediaTek has mentioned how the new chipset brings a 20% performance boost over its predecessor and better efficiency by 30%.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 also brings an upgraded GPU as it sports a Mali-615 MC6 GPU - the company claims that you are getting a 60% performance boost and 55% improved efficiency. If you are looking for a more affordable gaming phone, then this might be something that you would really enjoy.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 has now gone official, and it does feature a number of benefits, including support for large language models with up to 10 billion parameters, all thanks to its APU 780 AI chipset.

At the time of writing, we don't know just how fast the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is going to be in terms of generating AI. However, you can expect the company to reveal more details soon when we actually get access to the devices with this chipset under the hood. You can look at the specs below:

Moving further, the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 also brings support for Stable Diffusion. Sadly, we don't know just how fast this will work, but here is hoping you don't have to wait minutes or even a lot of seconds before the images are generated. RAM support comes with LPDDR5X with speeds up to 8,533Mbps. The company claims that faster RAM is needed for better LLM performance, which makes sense because we did hear about how RAM plays a major part in how the chipset will handle generative AI.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 also does to the optics - you are getting 4K/60 FPS HDR video, better power efficiency during video recording, AI-color functionality, and more. Sadly, no 8K recording is available, but I don't know anyone recording 8K footage on their smartphones. You do get several other options, such as AV1 decoding, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, and WQHD+ resolution with 120Hz refresh rate support.

If you want to try the MediaTek Dimensity 8300, then the first phone with this chipset will launch at the end of this year. Sadly, the company did not share any details on the availability, so we cannot be sure about that.
