Maxio has unveiled three brand-new PCIe Gen5 SSD controllers offering speeds of up to 14.8 GB/s and up to 64 TB capacities.

Maxio Technology Unveils New Enterprise & Consumer PCIe Gen5 SSD Controller: Up To 14.8 GB/s Speeds, 64 TB Capacities, 4800 MT/s Flash Memory Support

Maxio Technology, a brand relatively not that much known in the DRAM segment, has unveiled a trio of its next-gen PCIe Gen5 SSD controllers. These include the MAP1802 / MAP1806 Consumer-grade and the MAP1803 Enterprise controllers. All these are based on the latest technologies that offer over 14 GB/s speeds.

Starting with the flagship Maxio MAP1802, we are looking at the standard NVMe 2.0 specs. The die itself measures 9x13mm in an IHS-less design. The controller includes a 4-channel with 8 CE's and supports up to 4800 MT/s NAND Flash support. The fastest we have seen on the market yet, using the Phison E26 controller, is rated at around 3000 MT/s. The controller supports speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s Read (14.8 GB/s) and 14,400 MB/s Write (14.4 GB/s). It also supports 3400K IOPS Read and 3500K IOPS Write. Maximum supported capacities are up to 8 TB.

The second PCIe Gen5 SSD controller in Maxio's consumer portfolio is the MAP1806 which has a die size of 11x14.5mm and features 8 channels with 4 CE's that support NAND Flash speeds of up to 3600 MT/s. The controller is rated at speeds of up to 14,500 MB/s Read (14.5 GB/s) and 14,000 MB/s Write (14.0 MB/s). The IOPS for both read/write is rated at 3500K and maximum capacities are up to 16 TB.

Lastly, Maxio will offer its MAP1803 Enterprise Gen5 SSD controller which features a die size of 23x23mm and comes with an aluminum heat-spreader. The controller has 16 channels with 8 CE's and a maximum NAND Flash speed support of up to 3200 MT/s. The maximum speeds are rated at up to 14,000 MB/s Read (14.0 GB/s) and 13,500 MB/s Write (13.5 GB/s) with maximum Read IOPs of 3500K and Write IOPS of 450K. The controller offers maximum capacities of up to 64 TB.

Maxio MAP1803 PCIe Gen5 SSD Controller (Enterprise-Grade):

Currently, there's no word on when we will see more SSDs that utilize these PCIe Gen5 controllers from Maxio. So far, we have seen Phison and Silicon Motion controllers on consumer-grade SSDs. InnoSilicon and more such as Samsung & others are going to offer their products in the SSD segment soon. We can expect more solutions later this year as Gen5 platforms become commonplace.
