The A18 Pro running in the MacBook Neo is tailor-made for AAA titles on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which only meant that it was a matter of time before someone tried something as ridiculous as attempting Cyberpunk 2077 on Apple’s most affordable portable Mac. It turns out that one YouTuber was daring enough to attempt this experiment and, according to the content creator, the experience wasn’t terrible at all.
At the absolute lowest settings possible, the MacBook Neo can achieve around 50FPS, though the relevant metrics aren’t shown in the video
Right off the bat, Dave2D begins praising the MacBook Neo, calling it one of the most premium machines out there despite being stamped with that low $599 price. While we will cover the other aspects at a later time, what we weren’t expecting was Cyberpunk 2077 running on an A18 Pro. According to Dave2D, at the lowest possible settings, the machine was getting around 50FPS, but he mentions that this decent framerate is due to the efforts put in by the developers and not necessarily the A18 Pro’s raw performance capabilities.
However, those checking out Dave2D’s review video will immediately notice that, aside from a small clip showing a portion of Cyberpunk 2077’s benchmark, there’s no way to tell if the YouTuber actually obtained the claimed framerate. There are no metrics shared, no screenshot of the average FPS or the graphics settings selected, which are always provided by the game when the benchmark has finished. Without these pieces of evidence, it is difficult to believe the aforementioned figures.
The only time we felt that Dave2D wasn’t exaggerating was when we took a look at the game’s image quality running for a couple of seconds on the MacBook Neo. It was obviously a low-resolution video, with lots of shimmering and subpar textures present on the display. We’ll wait for someone else to gain inspiration from Dave2D’s review, and we’ll return with more updates.
If you’re looking for some more Cyberpunk 2077 gaming benchmarks on the latest Apple Silicon, we tested our laptop RTX 4090 at the same settings as the M5 Max, sporting an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. NVIDIA’s previous-generation GPU ended up beating the newer chipset by 63 percent in average FPS.
As for the MacBook Neo, Amazon is still taking pre-orders, starting from $599 for the 256GB model and $699 for the 512GB variant. While you think about your next Mac purchase, we’d also advise you to check out our detailed MacBook Neo and M5 MacBook Air buying guide to see which one is best suited to your needs.
