Apple made a slew of changes in the OLED iPad Pro models on the inside and out. Externally, the design is quite thin for a tablet that poses bending threats. A new teardown now reveals the insides of the M4 iPad Pro with OLED display, highlighting the copper Apple logo for dissipating heat, battery, and additional details.
M4 iPad Pro teardown reveals interesting details related to the Apple logo and repairability
The YouTube channel Phone Repair Guru has shared a teardown of the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, giving us a first look at the components powering the device. Apple is known for making its products look appealing on the inside and outside, as it arranges and covers everything quite neatly compared to the competition. Since the device is 5.1mm thin, it would have been a challenge for Apple to upgrade it with the latest internals and improvements while not compromising on the design.
It can be seen in the video embedded below that the components are stacked and screwed tightly into place. This is one of the reasons why it was so difficult for the YouTuber to pry out the screen of the M4 iPad Pro. However, with all the connectors of the display removed, it can be seen that the company has distributed batteries on both sides of the device, possibly to bolster the ergonomics of the device. This is a very crucial aspect in terms of designing the layout of the internal, as it could lead to one side of the sides of the device being heavier than the other. It can be seen that the battery is 39.99Wh or 10,209 mAh, which will deliver the same runtime as the previous mini-LED model.
At its event, Apple stated that it has adopted a new thermal solution due to the thin design of the M4 iPad Pro, and the teardown reveals interesting details on the matter. Apple coined on stage that the Apple logo on the new iPad Pro houses copper underneath to dissipate heat. Conjoined with the graphite sheet in the chassis, the copper-infused Apple logo will improve thermal performance by up to 20 percent. Apple was true to its words as the YouTuber scratched the Apple logo from the inside, revealing the copper material. It is also worth noting that the new M4 chip sits right behind the Apple logo, which will directly conduct heat and pass it out.
The YouTuber also showcased the repositioned Face ID and front-facing camera, which Apple has shifted to the right side of the device, and it should have been in the rightful position to begin with. As covered previously, and confirmed by the teardown, the iPad Pro houses redesigned magnets for the Apple Pencil Pro and the Magic Keyboard. The YouTuber suggests that the device is easy to open up, which means that it will also be easier to repair. However, parts that have been soldered to the motherboard will be equally hard or impossible to replace.
Apple's new M4 iPad Pro teardown shows promising initial impressions for repairability, but we will wait for iFixit's teardown for in-depth details. We will be sharing more details on the OLED iPad Pro models as soon as new information is discovered.
