Unlike traditional mini PCs, the ThinkCentre Neo Ultra Gen 2 mini PC leverages the prowess of a discrete GPU, which makes it an overall superior choice, but at the cost of a bigger form factor.
Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo Ultra Gen 2 Debuts at $2387 on JD, Featuring Core Ultra 9 285, RTX 5060, 32 GB RAM, and a 1 TB Storage
Lenovo has been taking a different approach to mini PCs since last year. In 2024, the company launched its YOGA Portal Mini PC that ran using the Core i7 14700 and GeForce RTX 4070, and once again, Lenovo silently released a new mini PC that uses a discrete desktop-class RTX 50 series GPU to ensure users can do both gaming and non-gaming work without sacrificing portability.
The new mini PC, ThinkCentre Neo Ultra Gen 2, is available in China, featuring the latest Arrow Lake Core Ultra 9 285 processor, which is paired with the GeForce RTX 5060. Just yesterday, we saw a somewhat similar launch by ZOTAC, which carried a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti inside an ultra-compact 2.65-liter chassis. So, that's still more compact than the ThinkCentre Neo Ultra, but it is based on the Core Ultra 7 255HX, which is a mobile Arrow Lake chip.
The ThinkCentre Neo Ultra Gen 2 uses a 3.6-liter chassis (a bit smaller than the YOGA Portal), which is bulkier than traditional Mini PCs, but that's to accommodate the desktop-grade parts, particularly the discrete GeForce RTX 5060 GPU. The configuration includes 32 GB DDR5 RAM (SODIMM) clocked at 5600 MT/s. For storage, there is a single 1 TB NVMe SSD, but users can have up to four M.2 drives (including 1x M.2 for WiFi), which is an upgrade over the previous model, which only had two M.2 slots.
This mini PC also carries built-in 2W speakers, which is uncommon on mini PCs, but can be pretty convenient. But there is a 3.5mm audio jack at the front I/O as well for users to connect external audio devices. There are 2x USB Type A and a single Type C port on the front as well, and the rear I/O is packed with several more USB ports, and 4x display connectors (3x DP and 1x HDMI) via the GPU.
The ThinkCentre Neo Ultra 2025 is available on JD for a price tag of 16,999 Yuan or US$2387, which is 1,000 Yuan (US$140) cheaper than the YOGA Portal at the time of launch. It should be kept in mind that Lenovo showcased it in April this year, but hasn't "officially" announced its retail launch. The ThinkCentre Neo Ultra might have been quietly released, which is likely why it is available on JD.
