Lenovo has officially unveiled its Legion Go 2 handheld with AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, priced at $1049, and here's our hands-on too.

Hands On With Lenovo's Next-Gen Legion Go 2 Handheld, Powered By AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme & Priced At $1049

Lenovo's first entry into the modern-day handheld gaming market kicked off with the Legion Go and the Legion Go S. The Legion Go was one of the first handhelds to feature the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, & the Legion Go S went for the entry-level Ryzen Z2 Go chip. Now, Lenovo has updated its handheld lineup with the 2nd-generation Legion Go 2, and is getting some massive upgrades.

The new Lenovo Legion Go handheld feels like a more ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing device than its predecessor. Just like its predecessor, the device can be used in multiple modes as the joysticks can be removed entirely, making for a console-like experience using the controller dock, or a PC-like experience using the FPS stick. So it works as a 3-in-1, a handheld, a tablet, or a laptop.

Coming to the specifications, the Lenovo Legion Go 2 is equipped with up to AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme chips. The handheld will also be available with other Ryzen Z2 chips, too. The Z2 Extreme is based on the newer Strix Point APUs with RDNA 3.5 graphics (16 CUs), & Ryzen Z2 is based on the Hawk APUs with RDNA 3 graphics (12 CUs). While both chips feature 8 cores and 16 threads, the Z2 Extreme is based on the newer Zen 5 architecture, while the Z2 is based on the Zen 4 architecture.

Other specs include an 8.8-inch 1200P OLED display, which is rated for up to 144Hz refresh rates, 500 nits brightness (True Black 1000 HDR), a 16:10 aspect ratio, and supports a native landscape mode. For comparison, the older Lenovo Legion Go featured a 1600p IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Memory is upgraded to 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 from 16 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 on the previous device, while storage includes 1 TB of PCIe and up to 2 TB of expandable MicroSD option.

Internals also include a reworked cooling solution with a bigger fan that offers increased airflow. There are two massive exhaust vents at the bottom and the back, and Lenovo states that this could be manually controlled. Lastly, there's the battery upgrade, which has been increased to 74Whr, up from 49.2 Whr on the older handheld. The handheld comes with a 65W AC Adapter. Other nifty features include a finger-print reader on the back.

IO options on the Lenovo Legion Go 2 handheld include a USB 4.0 Type-C port (DP 2.0 + PD 3.0), a 3.5mm combo audio jack, and another USB 4.0 Type-C port (DP 2.0 + PD 3.0) at the bottom alongside the microSD card reader.

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 handheld is priced at $1049 US (starting), and will be available later this month (September 2025).
