Samsung first teased the Android XR headset in 2024, which is codenamed Project Moohan. It is a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm to step into the category of mixed reality devices. After its first appearance, we have seen the headset being showcased at other big events such as the Galaxy Unpacked, CES 2025, and the Mobile World Congress 2025. The tech giant even went on to offer live demos to selected partners and media groups to highlight the product in its final stages. Until now, we have been relying on a vague launch window for the upcoming headset, but according to a new report, the device will be hitting the shelves soon.

A new report from Korea now claims that Samsung's XR headset will be released in October

Users are hooked on Samsung's upcoming release of its first Android XR headset in collaboration with Qualcomm and Google. While we have had an idea about the device coming out later this year, owing to speculations, a new report from Korea now says that Samsung is set to officially announce its XR headset in September and begin official sales in October.

According to the Korean publication Newspin, Samsung will be unveiling its Android XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, at the Unpacked event in South Korea, which will be held on September 29th. The headset would then officially go on sale in Korea on October 13, which would then be followed by a global launch. Before the Unpacked event in September, the tech giant would also hold its keynote in July, which, according to the report, would involve sharing prototypes of the Moohan headset alongside the debut of Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

It still remains unclear if Samsung will announce a release date during the Galaxy Unpacked event in July. Still, the release of the XR headset has been anticipated for so long that it is reassuring to see the ambiguity regarding it being cleared up and finally having a release window to look forward to. The mixed reality device has garnered quite a lot of attention because this is when the company will debut its flagship headset and step into the XR category.

Android XR is designed to run on Google's Android XR platform and be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. The device is expected to come with a high-resolution micro-OLED display and be deeply integrated with Gemini AI. The device does sound promising, and with a clear launch date, we are excited to see what the first Android XR headset will bring.
