It seems that 2025 is the year companies are taking a leap in AI technology on various fronts, and that includes the AI-driven extended reality as well. According to Samsung's preview of MWC 2025 (March 3-6), the company will be unveiling its much-awaited Android XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan. This would be the company's official entry into the XR space, where it would be in direct competition with Apple's Vision Pro and Meta's Quest. Since both products have marked their places firmly, the South Korean tech giants pivoting in that direction would be met with some tough competition.

Samsung is expected to leverage AI, Android XR, and Google Gemini AI assistants and offer smartphone integrations. In comparison to Apple, it is expected to opt for a more open software ecosystem. The company will focus on multimodal AI with advanced XT capabilities, bringing forward a more personalized user experience and more contextually aware interactions. As per the preview:

By integrating multimodal AI with advanced XR capabilities, this ground-breaking device marks a significant step toward more context-aware and personalized experiences that enhance everyday life in incredibly immersive ways.

The XR headset would be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor and would come with an external battery that can be connected with a USB-C cable for larger power needs. We got a glimpse of Project Moohan in January 2025 when it was showcased during the Galaxy Unpacked. It seems to mirror Apple's Vision Pro elements with a modern and sleek outlook and has some aspects of Meta's Quest as well.
