Kingdom Come: Deliverance makers Warhorse Studios is indeed working on its next project now that all of the DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is out the door. Unsurprisingly, it'll be another "huge immersive RPG" from the studio, according to the team's content director Ondřej Bittner in a Reddit AMA. But that doesn't totally tell us what the game is. The obvious guess is that it's just the next entry in the Kingdom Come series, but the other popular guess is that the team is working on an RPG set in the Lord of the Rings.
That's a rumour that has been following the studio around since the end of last month, at least, and while it is just hearsay for now, Warhorse would certainly fit the bill as a studio you'd have on a short list if you were trying to decide who got to make a Lord of the Rings RPG.
"We are hard at work on...something. Obviously we cannot disclose any details but I can share that it is a huge immersive RPG," Bittner wrote in reply to a user's question about what the studio is doing next.
It would be the studio's first foray into a more magical kind of fantasy adventure rather than its typical historical medieval fare, but in Warhorse's typical first-person style, that would offer a Lord of the Rings RPG experience that fans of the series haven't seen before.
By the same token, fans of the studio likely wouldn't bat an eye if Warhorse was just working on the next Kingdom Come game. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was a smash hit when it arrived at the beginning of 2025, and the success of each DLC release was a reminder that players want as much of Kingdom Come as Warhorse is prepared to make.
What could suggest that the studio is at least not working on the next Kingdom Come Deliverance game, however, is the fact that the series creator, Daniel Vávra, has recently shifted focus to developing a film and/or TV adaptation of the medieval franchise. So it's fair to question how much he and the rest of the studio is spending on a third KCD game versus a different project.
Even if it's not a Lord of the Rings RPG, and it's something entirely different, whatever it is, Warhorse has proven itself to players as a studio that's worth keeping an eye on. Whatever it does next will certainly catch a lot of attention, even without one of the world's largest and most well-known fantasy stories.
