iPhone SE 4 ‘Will Have Apple Intelligence,’ Hinting That It Might Be Equipped With At Least An A18 Chipset, But Price Remains An Obstacle

iPhone SE 4 will have Apple Intelligence

Apple is expected to kick off mass production of its low-cost iPhone SE 4 in October later this year, but the handset’s official launch will not happen before 2025. Fortunately, a report states that the wait will be worth it because this model will support Apple Intelligence, which is a suite of all the generative AI features the company is expected to release with the launch of iOS 18.1. As the majority of you know, a capable chipset, Neural Engine, and an adequate amount of RAM are necessary to run all Apple Intelligence features, which only means that the iPhone SE 4 could be kitted out with an A18 as the bare minimum.

Inclusion of Apple Intelligence also suggests that the iPhone SE 4 will have 8GB RAM, just like the iPhone 16 models

Apart from being Apple’s first low-cost handset to offer an OLED screen, we previously reported that the iPhone SE 4 would match the iPhone 16’s performance by featuring the A18 chipset. Now, Mark Gurman says in the latest edition of his ‘Power On’ newsletter that the affordable model slated to arrive in 2025 will not just look like an iPhone 14, but it will also support Apple Intelligence.

“But next year is certain to bring a bigger shake-up to the iPhone line. As early as the beginning of 2025, Apple will launch a new iPhone SE — the first upgrade to its low-end phone since 2022. This model will look like an iPhone 14, with a crisper OLED display that stretches across the full device. And you can also bet that it will have Apple Intelligence.”

Given that you need an A17 Pro, an A18, or an A18 Pro to run Apple Intelligence features, our gut tells us that the iPhone SE 4 will ship with the A18. As for why we believe that this model will not feature the older A17 Pro, the technology giant will likely employ TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process instead of the first iteration, meaning that a name change will be in order to avoid confusion for potential buyers wanting to get their hands on the iPhone SE 4.

In addition to packing a powerful SoC, we also believe that the handset will support Face ID and a USB-C port as part of its specifications. However, as enticing as the upgrade appears, the ‘make or break’ part lies in its pricing. Gurman believes that if Apple targets a lower price bracket, it will be a ‘hot seller,’ and we agree with him. You are pretty much getting flagship-level hardware, along with premium generative AI features, at a pricing bracket that many would term ‘mid ranged.’ Now, all that remains to be seen is whether Apple can match these predictions, so let us keep our fingers crossed and wait for the official release next year.
