Questionable
The craze over sleek smartphones is likely to evaporate with the iPhone Air, as Apple has reportedly informed its supply chain to halt production. However, after just a few hours, we have come across a ‘fresh out of the oven’ rumor, claiming that the iPhone Air 2 is ‘currently undergoing normal testing.’ While that is a sliver of hope for those small percentage of buyers who display some affinity for devices with a razor-thin profile, China, the world’s largest smartphone market by volume, is also witnessing poor reception of the iPhone Air.
The iPhone Air was previously said to have been sold out in China, but in just a little under two weeks, it has only shipped a little over 100,000 units
Notable Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has informed his followers that the iPhone Air 2 has not been canceled, with previous information shared by him claiming that Apple is evaluating a second 48MP ultrawide-angle camera for the iPhone Air’s successor. There is no harm in testing devices months in advance since trillion-dollar entities like Apple have a truckload of product prototypes under development. The real question is whether we will witness an iPhone Air 2 launch next year?
The answer is probably no, and to support our claim, the tipster has shared some sales figures for the iPhone Air in China. In the past 12 days, this particular model has only sold around 100,000 units, making it a rather dismal performance. What is shocking is that after the iPhone Air launched in the country, it quickly sold out, hinting that only Apple could conjure up some magic that would convince consumers to spend a premium on a smartphone that featured a minuscule battery and a single rear camera.
Unfortunately, the hype dwindled at lightning pace because the California-based giant is in the same boat as competitors like Samsung, which has reportedly canceled the Galaxy S26 Edge due to poor Galaxy S25 Edge sales, confirming that, in this day and age, there is virtually no demand for devices with slimmer form factors. Due to the ‘less than thrilling’ demand for the iPhone Air, only one Chinese phone maker is pursuing an ultra-thin flagship launch, whereas the others have folded.
