Apple is slowly bumping up the battery capacities of its top-end smartphones, and earlier this year, there was a rumor doing the rounds that the iPhone 18 Pro Max would offer the largest capacity upgrade in this particular space. Thankfully, the smaller iPhone 18 Pro isn’t being left out because Apple is said to bring a battery bump to this model, but it might not be much. Luckily for you, there will be other changes inbound to increase the flagship’s endurance.
The transition to the new 2nm chipsets and improved C2 5G modem will contribute more to the iPhone 18 Pro battery life
The latest details shared by Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station mention both the eSIM and non-eSIM versions of an iPhone 18 Pro prototype. In China, where adoption of eSIM technology is being pushed at a snail’s pace, customers won’t experience the best battery life because the iPhone 18 Pro is said to be equipped with a 4,056mAh cell, compared to the 4,288mAh capacity of the eSIM version.
Since physical SIM cards and their trays take up slightly more room than an embedded chip, Apple has some space to play around with. However, if buyers want the best possible endurance, they should consider upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is said to go a step above the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Now, even though you may be slightly disappointed that the iPhone 18 Pro isn’t being treated to a hefty upgrade, here’s why you shouldn’t make a big fuss about it.
Apple is said to introduce its first 2nm SoC later this year, the A20 Pro, and with it, a wave of efficiency improvements that’ll help boost battery life further. We’ve already discussed at length that the Cupertino firm will bring more optimizations to its efficiency cores this year, as it did with the A19 Pro, whose cores not just deliver more performance, but these improvements come at practically zero power draw compared to the A18 Pro.
| Battery capacity | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | iPhone 17 Pro | iPhone 17 Pro Max |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eSIM version | 4,288mAh | 5,100mAh-5,200mAh+ | 4,252mAh | 5,088mAh |
| non-eSIM version | 4,056mAh | 5,000mAh+ | 3,988mAh | 4,823mAh |
Secondly, later this year, Apple is expected to introduce its C2 5G modem, and if the C1 and C1X are any indications, the next-generation baseband chip should consume less power and deliver better reception. Most importantly, the C2 could become the best addition to the iPhone 18 Pro in regards to life-saving situations, so your device will be powered long enough to call for help if you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The only drawback mentioned by Digital Chat Station is that these upgrades could lead to a price increase, but given that Apple’s DRAM stockpile is already running low, consumers should already be prepared to shell out more money for their iPhone 18 purchase.
