Apple created quite the buzz when it launched its iPhone 17 series. While the design and other upgrades were making waves, the tech giant remained focused on the battery life improvements and how they were also a major selling point for the new lineup. The latest iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are shaping up to be the most power-efficient iPhones yet, but it is not because of the addition of the A19 Pro chip and other optimizations; instead, it is the eSIM advantage that brings the extended battery life. The only letdown here is that the models are available in only selected regions.

iPhone 17 Pro's eSIM advantage brings forward the best battery life yet

While the iPhone 17 Pro models featuring the A19 Pro chip do boost efficiency, it is in fact the eSIM models that offer record-breaking battery life, but there is a catch. According to Apple, only users in the U.S. and some other selected regions can benefit from the extra two hours of video playback time compared to the international version that comes with the physical SIM tray.

This roughly translates to the iPhone 17 Pro offering 30 hours of battery life and the iPhone 17 Pro Max offering 35 hours in the U.S. In other countries, the battery life would only be 28 hours and 33 hours, respectively. Apple went on to suggest up to 39 hours of playback for the eSIM-only models, which might be a new benchmark for the iPhone's battery life.

This has been made possible in the eSIM phones and not the ones with the physical tray because they have more internal space for fitting in a larger battery, especially for the Pro Max model, which has now been able to achieve a 5,000mAh battery capacity, something that users have been long waiting to see.

This is an interesting technical shift that may benefit those who adopt the eSIM models. It also represents the tech giant's vision to evolve its devices through internal changes that are not merely limited to the chipset alone.
