Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event introduced major changes across the iPhone 17 lineup, as all models now come with 120Hz ProMotion technology, even the ultra-thin iPhone Air. The company’s decision to upgrade the display technology comes years after it was first introduced on the ‘Pro’ models of the iPhone. The standard variant now finally brings value to the table, bridging the gap with the ‘Pro’ models.
Apple expands ProMotion and doubles storage, making the iPhone 17 lineup more valuable and competitive across all models
Apart from the new 120Hz ProMotion display, it is also worth noting that all iPhone models now come with 256GB of base storage capacity, another major milestone for the standard and the iPhone Air. We were expecting the smaller iPhone 17 Pro to feature 256GB of base storage upgrades, but the company decided to incorporate it into its entire lineup.
With these upgrades at hand, the base iPhone 17 is now a very good option against the Air and the Pro models, as it features the same price tag as last year’s iPhone 16. Users will get more value not just because of the extended storage, but in display technology as well. The higher 120Hz ProMotion display has also enabled Always-On display on the base model for the very first time, which is another reason why the iPhone 17 is a much better choice for many users who are not willing to spend upward of $1,000 for the new iPhone 17 Pro.
The display remains at 6.3 inches, the same as the smaller ‘Pro’ model, and the device is also powered by the A19 chip coupled with a bigger battery and a 48MP Dual Fusion Camera system. On the front, you also get an upgraded 18MP Center Stage camera. If you are interested in getting the iPhone 17, it is available for pre-orders starting September 12 and will be available to customers on September 19.
