Apple added a metal enclosure to its iPhones last year to help with dissipation and other improvements. Fortunately, the technology giant is not changing its approach with the iPhone 17 series scheduled to arrive later this year, because a tipster has shared the internal arrangement of the iPhone 17 Pro, showing a different-shaped battery. Interestingly enough, the iPhone 17 Air battery leak that we talked about yesterday; the cell actually belongs to the more expensive device.
New battery found in the iPhone 17 Pro ditches the L-shaped design, but will stick to dimensions that optimize internal space and increase capacity
On X and his official website, Majin Bu has shared the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery design. What surprised us is that the component’s dimensions will vary depending on which market the device is sold in. The tipster mentions that in the U.S., the iPhone 17 Pro’s cell will sport a wider design because all handsets sold by Apple in the region rely on eSIM for communication, giving the technology giant some space to make the battery wider.
As for the Chinese variant, the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery design is slightly altered, thanks to a physical SIM tray taking up a percentage of the compact space. Both versions feature a metal enclosure, which will help with heat dissipation and improve thermal management. This is important to note, especially considering that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumored to ship with a vapor chamber.
What the tipster has not updated in his post is whether the iPhone 17 Pro, sold in the U.S. and China, will have different charging speeds or battery capacities. Given that both variants feature different battery designs, a possibility exists that there could be some deviation in the hardware specifications. Historically, Apple has not preferred either country in this regard, so it is unlikely that the iPhone 17 Pro will have two batteries.
