Apple Reportedly Gunning For Samsung’s Home Turf Of South Korea With Its iPhone 17 Launch, First Batch To Be Sent To This Region

Apple has reportedly included South Korea as the first region where the iPhone 17 lineup will launch

The iPhone 17 family was said to have entered mass production earlier this month, with Foxconn sticking with its usual approach of handing out bonuses to employees in a bid to meet Apple’s demanding targets. The company has lined up several countries where the initial batch will arrive first, with the U.S. obviously being the most favored, followed by China. However, Samsung’s home market of South Korea has also been included in the list, as Apple aims to carve out a piece of the pie for itself.

New details reveal that shortly after the iPhone 17 launch concludes on September 9, pre-orders in South Korea will kick off shortly after

The formula of entering South Korea will be repeated with the iPhone 17 launch, following last year’s success, when Apple targeted Samsung’s market share with the iPhone 16 series’ unveiling. This time, with the announcements expected to transpire on September 9, Herald Crop reports that pre-orders in South Korea will start from September 12. As for the official release, the iPhone 17 lineup will be available to purchase from September 19.

The report also mentions that there was a disagreement in the industry on whether Apple would include South Korea as one of the first countries to receive the initial iPhone 17 shipment batch. However, given that the market is dominated by Samsung, with Counterpoint Research mentioning that cumulative sales reached 82 percent from January to July this year, the region holds significant importance for Apple, and it can potentially have a sell-through in the millions.

Then again, some industry insiders do not believe that the iPhone 17 launch will materialize into a raging success for Apple, and it is not because of the lack of compelling features. The report states that since the Cupertino firm will be forced to raise prices thanks to the tariffs, the updated figures could be too much for consumers to bear, resulting in lowered sales. Then again, Apple could disguise the price increases of certain iPhone 17 models by bringing in storage upgrades, which is what the company did with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
