Based on past rumors and reports, the iPhone 16 is speculated to bring various design changes for the standard and 'Pro' models. However, news related to the iPhone 17 has already started pouring in, with details surrounding the handset's display. The latest leak emerges from China, suggesting that the iPhone 17 will house a display with better anti-reflective properties and enhanced durability compared to the iPhone 15's panel.
iPhone 17 lineup to use a new anti-reflective and scratch-resistant display, potentially from Corning
Apple has already started working on its next-generation iPhone 17, which will see daylight next year, and there will be some pretty nifty changes in terms of design. A Weibo post from Instant Digital portrays Apple's intention to upgrade the display technology on the iPhone 17. Based on his sources, Instant Digital claims that the iPhone 17's display will bolster a "super-hard anti-reflective layer," which will be "more scratch-resistant than you think" compared to the Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone 15 series.
The leaker states that the essential components for display properties have been given to suppliers in China, but it will take time before it is ready. This means that the new display with an anti-reflective layer will be exclusively available on the iPhone 17 lineup, as it is too early for it to be part of the iPhone 16 coming later this year.
While the display on the iPhone 15 is strong and color-accurate, it is not the best when it comes to handling reflections. On the flip side, the new Galaxy S24 series comes with a new Gorilla Glass Armor display and according to the manufacturer, the panel is efficient enough to minimize 75 percent of reflections compared to an average panel. Additionally, the panel minimizes scratches, which enhances the device's durability compared to the aluminosilicate cover glasses.
At this stage, we are not familiar with Apple's plans to incorporate Corning's display technology on the iPhone 17 lineup. However, even if Apple does, it will use a different marketing term for its innovative technology. The company partners with Corning for display panels used on the iPhone, and Ceramic Glass is the final product that the company debuted with the iPhone 12 lineup. Apple will potentially stretch its efforts to create an anti-reflective glass for the iPhone 17 next year to better compete against the likes of Samsung.
The iPhone 17 will potentially undergo a major design overhaul, and the new display will be part of the mix. Note that the iPhone 17 launch is more than a year away, and the company could decide to change its plans for an even better option. We will share additional details on the matter, so be sure to stick around for more information.
