The evidence signaling a major design change for the iPhone 17 continues to pile up, as a tipster has shared what appears to be a CAD render of a case belonging to the base model. The most notable aesthetics shift comes from the back side, revealing a large horizontal pill-shaped cutout that will house the camera array and other components. Here are more details on the latest leak.
New case CAD render shows no additional buttons, with Camera Control and volume rocker present on the same side of the iPhone 17 accessory
Whether or not the case design shared by Majin Bu on X ends up being the real deal, we are here to discuss how different the iPhone 17 can look compared to Apple’s previous-generation releases. This design change was shared by the same tipster earlier this year, with the rear camera cutout present on the left-hand side of the back panel, along with a tiny circular hole on the right, which was presumed to be where the LED flash would be housed. On this occasion, we see that the primary sensor is also on the left, with more details on where the handset’s buttons will be placed.
It appears that the base iPhone 17’s Camera Control and volume up and down buttons will be present on the same side, making it unchanged from the iPhone 16’s configuration. Another cutout can be spotted at the bottom, where the charging port is located. Now, we have always recommended readers to treat these leaks with a pinch of salt, but it is not uncommon for case makers to receive schematics of the latest iPhones before the official announcement occurs later in the year so that they can mass produce the accessories just in time.

It appears that Majin Bu’s source overseas was in contact with one of the suppliers of an iPhone 17 case, and they managed to provide him with some valuable information. Hopefully, Apple will switch to a new design because there is only so much success that can be garnered by improving the internals every year. As always, when we stumble across updated details, we will relay them to you.
