In less than three hours, Apple’s executives will be on stage to announce four new iPhone 17 models that will eventually go on sale later this month. For the first time, we will be greeted by a new device with an entirely fresh form factor, and during the last year and this year, we have always stumbled upon rumors and reports that claimed the official name would be ‘iPhone 17 Air.’ Of course, the beauty of a product launch keynote happening in a few hours means that you will run into a couple of surprises, and according to some warranty documentation shared by a tipster, Apple’s sleek flagship will be called something else.
Apple could call the iPhone 17 Air as ‘iPhone Air’ with additional details mentioning the storage and color
For months now, we have been led to believe that the iPhone 17 Air will be the actual name of one of the models, but PhoneArt, who was previously known by the handle Ice Universe, has shared Chinese warranty documentation that does not mention the number ‘17’ anywhere. Instead, the name iPhone Air, along with internal storage of 256GB and the ‘Space Black,’ color are printed on the paper, with bar codes and serial numbers given below.
In short, the iPhone Air is expected to be Apple’s first-generation slim offering, suggesting that next year’s successor could be called the iPhone Air 2. Unfortunately, we still have a few unanswered questions, starting with the base internal storage. While the documentation states that this specific model will ship with 256GB of onboard memory, it does not mention if this is the standard amount for the base version.
A previous estimation stated that the iPhone Air would start at $1,099 and would arrive with 256GB of non-upgradable storage, and looking at the paper specifications at the time, we concluded that the device exuded horrible value. Also, given that out of the estimated 100 million iPhone 17 units that will be produced in 2025, the iPhone Air would have the lowest manufacturing ratio, hinting that the device could be materialized to gauge the market’s response. Assuming it does well in regions like the U.S. and China, we could be greeted by an immediate successor in 2026.
