iPhone 17 Air design and performance

Apple is working on the iPhone 17 'Slim,' which will potentially sit between the standard and the 'Pro' models, but it might be priced higher than both variants. Analyst Mark Gurman has shared his insights on next year's iPhone 17 lineup, along with foldable devices, and how Apple plans to differentiate each model with varying specifications and target audiences.

iPhone 17 'Air' will be designed for users who are least concerned about performance

The iPhone 17 'Slim' has been mentioned in prior reports for a while, and Gurman refers to the device as the iPhone 17 'Air,' which would make a lot of sense for Apple considering the design and form factor. Apple is potentially working on a new model of the iPhone, which will feature a design thinner than the rest of the models and the specifications will potentially sit between the standard and the 'Pro' models of the iPhone.

In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman has shared details on the iPhone 17 'Air' and what it could bring to the table for users, considering it will not boast amazing specifications as the 'Pro' models despite being priced higher. He also shared that the device will be oriented towards users who are more into the looks of the handsets than the processing power or performance as a whole. This means that the fourth iteration of the iPhone, in terms of its design, will target a very specific niche and that it will not be for everyone.

If you want something snazzier than a standard iPhone — but don’t really need the performance, screen size or cameras of a Pro model — you can get something that looks much cooler while still having the specifications of a regular iPhone.

Gurman also shared that the iPhone 17 'Air' will be a big success and will bring "meaningful growth" to the iPhone. He also expects that the iPhone 17 'Air' will be a bigger hit than the 'mini' iPhones as well as the Plus-branded iPhones, but it remains to be seen how the category performs in the real world. This is because the sales of the 'mini' and the 'Plus' have been below expectations and the benchmark is not that high to begin with.

If the iPhone 17 'Air' does succeed, Apple could port the design of the device into its main lineup, including the standard and the 'Pro' models. We will keep a close eye on the ultra-thin iPhone 17, so do stick around. Do you think users would prefer an iPhone with more visual appeal than performance?
