Apple is planning significant changes for the iPhone 16 lineup, which includes a new Capture Button. It was previously discovered that the Capture Button will be dedicated specifically to the iPhone 16 Pro's camera features. The new Capture Button on the iPhone 16 Pro would be an additional button other than the Action Button. The company is currently exploring the shape and size of the buttons on the handset. A new report has been published that details the features of the Capture Button on the iPhone 16 Pro.
iPhone 16 Pro to feature a mechanical Capture Button with gesture support for zooming in and out
The Capture Button would be an exclusive addition for the 'Pro' models this year, allowing users to control various aspects of the camera app. We have previously speculated that the button can be used as a shutter key to adjust the focus. The Information claims the Capture Button will also support gestures rather than just being a standalone button. It was previously reported that the Capture Button on the iPhone 16 Pro would be capacitive. However, the latest report suggests that the button will be mechanical. The report also claims the button can sense pressure and touch for additional input.
The Information claims users can zoom in and out by swiping left and right on the Capture Button. Furthermore, a light press would serve as a focus trigger, and a more forceful press would trigger recording. We have heard ample details on the Capture Button in the past few months. We can now presume that it would be a multi-purpose button oriented toward advanced features for the camera app. Much like the Action Button, the Capture Button could also be customized to match a user's preference for camera features.
As mentioned earlier, Apple plans to add another button to the 'Pro' models. The Capture Button would be positioned below the Side or Power Button on the iPhone 16 Pro. The publication claims the new button will be the iPhone 16 Pro's unique selling feature. Apple appears to be pushing users to shoot landscape videos on the iPhone, and the button placement would make a lot of sense. However, the company has not finalized whether the button will be capacitive or mechanical. We have previously heard that the Capture Button will sit flush with the device's frame, hinting that Apple is going for a capacitive approach. However, it is too early to conclude as the iPhone 16 launch is months away.
