Apple ramps up display production of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro ahead of launch next month

Apple is well ahead in the iPhone 16 development process as the devices are almost a month away from launch. We are hearing quite a bit of details related to the design and feature set of the flagship models. The latest suggests that Apple suppliers have already ramped up production for the iPhone 16's OLED panels, and the company has selected Samsung and LG as its primary suppliers.

Apple ramps up mass production of the iPhone 16's OLED panels as suppliers are working at their full capacities ahead of the launch

Apple has requested LG Display and Samsung to manufacture OLED panels for the iPhone 16 lineup. It was reported earlier in June that both suppliers had begun initial production of the displays. In July, the suppliers ramped up production last month, according to a new report from ETNews. Typically, when mass production begins, it means that the company has finalized the design of the devices and that it may be too late for any major changes.

The iPhone 16 lineup will be a significant upgrade over the current models, which has made Apple speculate that shipments will go as high as 90 million units. As for the displays, the OLED panel production will be roughly 30 percent higher, stretching the number to almost 120 million units. Both suppliers are working at their full capacities, with Samsung being able to produce as many as 80 million units of panels, and LG Display will manufacture 43 million by the end of the year.

Apple's supply chain will handle the units and deal with assembly, which will ensure the timely launch of the devices. As for the launch, we are expecting the iPhone 16 lineup to arrive in the first half of next month, as Apple usually hosts an event in the first 15 days every year and this year it will potentially see fit to keep up with its tradition.

The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are slated to feature the same design and form factor from the front, but the back is where the devices will have a vertical camera setup similar to the iPhone 12 or the iPhone X. The 'Pro' models of the iPhone 16 will feature a slightly larger chassis coming in at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches. The device is also slated to house upgraded camera hardware and boasts the slimmest bezels on any smartphone. There will also be an Action Button and a new Capture Button on all four variants of the series.
