iPad mini 7 will lack ProMotion display, likely to feature jelly scrolling issue

Rumors of a new iPad mini lineup have come up again, suggesting that the company might be planning to launch the seventh generation of the tablets later this year. The iPad mini 6 was launched, and users complained of jelly scrolling issues on the display. It was coined by Apple that jelly scrolling is common on LCDs. However, users have since wanted the iPad mini to feature a higher refresh rate display. It is now being tipped that the iPad mini 7 will not feature a 120Hz ProMotion display.

iPad mini 7 to not get the iPad Pro treatment as 120Hz ProMotion technology is tipped to be absent in the upcoming launch

Apple was initially rumored to host another event in the last quarter of this year where it would see fit to announce the new M3 chip alongside new Macs and iPad models. However, another rumor stated that Apple will launch the iPad mini 7 and iPad Air later this year. According to a tipster on X, the iPad mini 7 will not feature Apple's 120Hz ProMotion display. He also stated that the upgrade will only include a processor upgrade from A15 Bionic.

It will be years before the company plans to incorporate ProMotion technology in the iPad mini lineup. If the company does plan to spread its ProMotion technology to a budget device, the iPad Air will be the first in line to receive it. However, since the iPad mini 6 was a big hit amongst users, it would not be a big surprise for a higher refresh rate display to be part of the next-generation iPad.

As mentioned earlier, users have suggested that Apple should launch the iPad mini 7 with a ProMotion display to avoid running into jelly scrolling. It seems that users will have to adhere to it once again. If you are not familiar, jelly scrolling is tearing up the screen where one side of the display refreshes faster than the other. On standard use, you will not notice the difference but if you are looking for it then you can not unsee it.

It was previously rumored that the company was testing a display manufactured by Samsung with a 120Hz refresh rate. Since last year, we have not heard additional rumors regarding its integration into the iPad mini lineup. However, the new iPad mini 7 lineup will come with a chip upgrade from the A15 Bionic to a newer chip. We suspect that the company will use its A17 Pro chip, which is fabricated on TSMC's 3nm architecture.

The new A17 Pro chip will be a major upgrade for the iPad as it will deliver faster computational and graphical performance on the smaller iPad. This will make the iPad mini 7 the perfect gaming machine if Apple allows the USB-C cable to be hooked to an external display with support for high-end games. We will keep you guys updated on the latest, so be sure to stick around.
