Apple has introduced minor changes to the newly announced iPad mini 7, with the majority of those improvements coming from the inside of the tablet when compared to the iPad mini 6. Sadly, one area that the company did not improve upon was the maximum charging speeds, as the compact tablet is limited to 20W, at least according to a regulatory filing. The plus side to this is that if you already have one of these power bricks lying around, you will not have to purchase a high-performance accessory to top up the iPad mini 7, saving you a small amount of money.
Advantage of transitioning to a USB-C port for the iPad mini 7 was the improvements in charging speeds, but improvements can be made
The iPad mini 7’s charging speeds have seemingly been confirmed thanks to a 3C certification report that was spotted by 91mobiles. The specifications mention a 45W A2940 adapter with a 15V and 3A rating, but the new tablet is limited to 20W. While the first teardown of the iPad mini 7 has yet to arrive, it is possible that Apple retained the same circuitry as the previous-generation model, which means that the device could not support more than 20W wattage.
Compared to the competition, the iPad mini 7 is lagging behind similarly-priced Android products., but it is possible that Apple intentionally retains a 20W charge limit to ensure the longevity of the tablet. Keep in mind that customers keep these products longer than they keep smartphones, so the battery needs to be running at its maximum health for the longest time possible to ensure that users get their money’s worth.
Assuming that the internal hardware improvements do not suffice the iPad mini 7’s $499 starting price, you can still grab the older-generation iPad mini 6 for $379.99 on Amazon for the Wi-Fi-only model, resulting in a 24 percent discount while also providing a decent upgrade. Sure, you will miss out on upcoming Apple Intelligence features, not to mention being able to run AAA games, but if your priority is to engage in a little browsing or attach an external keyboard for productivity, this should be your ‘go-to’ slate.
