iPad mini 7 fixes jelly scrolling for good

One of the biggest issues with the iPad mini 6 that came to light was jelly scrolling, and users have shared their dismay over the mismatched display refresh over various platforms. With the launch of the iPad mini a few weeks ago, it appears that Apple has finally fixed the issue for good. In our review roundup, it was mentioned that most users do not see the jelly scrolling on the iPad mini 7, except for The Verge. Well, there has been a test conducted that clearly shows that the jelly scrolling on the iPad mini 7 has been fixed, putting an end to the long debate.

Apple has listened and fixed jelly scrolling on the iPad mini 7, as the latest shows an unnoticeable refresh difference

A video was posted on X by @NANA_CoRRiENTE that aims to show the iPad mini 6 and iPad mini 7 side by side. Both iPad mini models are running a simulation of horizontal lines moving up and down, which shows that the jelly scrolling issue was indeed present in the previous model. You can see that the horizontal lines on the iPad mini on the left show a wobbling effect like a teeter-totter, which explains the phenomenon of one side of the display refreshing faster than the other.

On the iPad mini 7 on the right, the issue is not at all pronounced. It can be observed closely that there is some or very minute jelly scrolling, but that is just the nature of the display. However, the difference is still night and day between the two models, and you will not be able to notice the difference in refresh rate between the two sides of the panel.

The issue first came to light after the company launched the iPad mini 6 back in 2021, and after three long years, the jelly scrolling has now been fixed. The test basically confirms that the issue is no longer present, which puts the entire frenzy to rest.

The iPad mini 7 is one of the best iPads in the entire lineup, and with the new A17 Pro refresh, the company has definitely made it way better. It is yet to be seen how Apple Intelligence will perform on the device, but the fact that it is available in such a small package makes all the difference. The upgraded chip also makes Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro make their way to the iPad mini lineup, but the device does not support the Stage Manager feature, which is only available on iPads with an M series chip.
