iOS 18 is said to be the biggest update the iPhone has ever received, as the company plans to upgrade the entire system with AI integration. Apple has invested a lot of time and effort in developing AI features, and it is also seeking outside support in the same field. The Cupertino giant is in talks with Google, OpenAI, as well as China's Baidu to bring their generative AI technology to the iPhone and iOS 18 and the result could offer a bigger impact than originally anticipated. However, Apple is also considering redesigning the platform, as recent rumors coin that iOS 18 will allow users to customize the Home Screen on the iPhone.
iOS 18 to be released later this year with additional customization options for the iPhone's Home Screen
The news was shared by analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in his latest Power On newsletter, stating that Apple aims to revamp the Home Screen with the release of iOS 18 later this year. The analyst did not share additional details on what is coming with iOS 18, but over the past few months, we have covered various aspects of what users should be looking forward to.
The company is expected to unveil its big iOS 18 update at its WWDC event in June alongside watchOS 11, tvOS 18, macOS 15, and much more. iOS 18 is expected to feature a handful of utilities powered by generative AI, and the technology will also be part of the Messages app, Apple Music, Keynote, Pages, and more. The company has also invested in upgrading Siri, which will allow the platform to compete better against Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. We suspect that Apple will allow users to customize the Home Screen with more customization tools, potentially the ability to change the look of the app icons in a more seamless manner.
Google allows themed icons on Pixel devices, including its phones and tablets, and if Apple follows the same route, the app icons on the Home Screen in iOS 18 could reflect the colors of the wallpaper. We are not familiar with the exact details, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt and wait for Apple to officially announce the platform at its WWDC event in the coming months.
One thing that you should note is that Apple is developing some AI features that will only work with the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, as flagship chipsets will power the devices with a powerful Neural Engine. However, most features will be part of iOS 18 and will be available on older iPhone models compatible with the build. Do you think AI features will be one of the reasons that will make the iPhone 16 a worthy upgrade?
