HP appears to continue the OMEN desktop series with older CPUs instead of equipping them with Arrow Lake CPUs.

The OMEN desktop series is getting a new model, and it looks like HP still trusts Intel's 14th-gen processors more than the current ones (at least for the 16L edition). While the company does have Arrow Lake-based OMEN desktops, these are mostly the desktop Core Ultra 200S processors in the OMEN 35L series. In the OMEN 16L series, HP has continued the usage of Intel's 14th-gen processors and is now switching to mobile chips.

HP is going to release a new OMEN 16L gaming desktop, based on Intel Core i7 14650HX, paired with GPUs like GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti. If you take a look at the pic, the desktop looks identical to the already existing editions, which boast Intel Core i7 14700F. The 14650HX is a mobile chip, which offers fewer efficient cores than 14700F, and therefore, the new edition will have the 16-core/24-thread CPU instead of a 20-core/28-thread model.

While the processor belongs to the enthusiast tier, it's not going to bring any major change in performance. When paired with the RTX 5060 or RTX 5060 Ti, the gaming performance will be somewhat similar to the previous configuration. Apart from the processor and the graphics card choices, it's unknown what RAM and storage configurations the new model will offer out of the box.

The current model offers 32 GB DDR5 memory and a 2 TB SSD. However, given the state of high DRAM and SSD prices, HP might also introduce a 16 GB/1 TB configuration, which will likely be even more expensive than the one with higher RAM/Storage capacity. We should hear more about this desktop as we draw closer to CES 2026.
