Android users are going through a confusing time because, let's be honest, Google decided to kill Assistant by turning it into Bard, and just when we thought we were all settled, the company decided that it is going to rename Bard to Gemini, which will replace Assistant and all things Bard on Android devices. However, Google Assistant is not officially dead, and if you cannot wait to try out the new AI-powered assistant, you are at the right place, as we will teach you how to use Gemini on your Android smartphone.

Now, although the process of Gemini killing Google Assistant has started, it is going slow, and not all Android devices have it. Thankfully, we are still in a world where sideloading is completely possible, and if you are impatient like me, then you can use Gemini on Android without having to wait for an official release.

Use Gemini on Android devices and get rid of Google Assistant

Using Gemini on Android is not really complicated. You do have to go through some steps of sideloading, but other than that, you are in the clear and should be good to go. Still, if you are confused about how to make that work, you can check the steps below. Remember, if the app is already available on Google Play Store in your region, then you don't need to worry about it.

Step 1:  Head over here and download the latest Gemini app version.

Step 2: Once you have downloaded the app, navigate to your phone's storage and tap the .apk to start the installation process.

Step 3: Depending on your device, you will be presented with a message similar to this; make sure you acknowledge it.

Step 4: Once the app is installed, all you have to do is launch it from the home screen or the app drawer. Alternatively, you can just say, "Hey, Google," and it will show up.

Step 5: Just hit the Get started button, and you should be on your way without any issues whatsoever.

There you have it, folks. You are finally ready to use Gemini on your Android device. It still works like Google Assistant used to do, and the prompts are the same. However, in my testing, I believe it is better in some ways than Assistant, while we are still waiting for more and more features to come to this AI.
