One of the first true tests of your patience in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined isn’t a boss fight, but the light-refracting puzzle found deep within the Pit of Silence. To restore Alltrades Abbey, you must first release the High Priestess Jacqueline, who is trapped in a magical cage powered by two massive crystals on the upper level.
If you’re finding the mirror mechanics a bit finicky, don't worry - you aren't alone. After spending way too many minutes aligning the mirrors during my first playthrough, I’ve mapped out the exact placements you need to shatter both crystals and get back to the action.

How to Move The Mirrors
Before you start, keep in mind that the mirrors' controls can feel a little "heavy." To move a mirror, get close to it and press the X / A / B button (depending on your controller). You can then drag the mirror both horizontally and vertically.
For optimal placement, focus on the floor tiles. The mirrors click into a grid, so if you're struggling to line up the beam, check if the base of the mirror is centered on a tile.
Shattering the First Crystal
The first crystal is located on the right side of the chamber and serves as an introduction to the mechanic. You only need to deal with a few mirrors here to create a straight path for the beam.

Shattering the Second Crystal
The second crystal is significantly more complex. This side of the puzzle requires you to utilize the mirrors on the far left of the room, creating a "snake" pattern with the light to bypass the central obstructions.

This part of the puzzle is where most players get frustrated because a single misaligned mirror can break the entire chain.

Should You Be Afraid of The Boss Ahead?
After completing the puzzle, return to the High Priestess Jacqueline to continue the story. Some challenging fights will be waiting for you, but you shouldn't be worried about them, as you not only will soon receive your skills back, but you will also be able to change your Vocations for the first time before you have to take on the dreadful Cardinal Sin. This is a huge turning point in the game, so once Jacqueline is free, take a moment to breathe and experiment with your new class options ahead of the fight!
