How to Enable Seconds in Mac Menu Bar Clock [macOS Tips]
Want to enable and view seconds in the Mac menu bar clock on the top right corner of the screen? Here's how you can enable it right now.
Enable the Seconds Indicator in the Mac Menu Bar Clock and Glance at the Time More Accurately
If you're new to the Mac, then you already know that there is a tiny clock on the top right corner of the display. It shows the time like it should alongside the date, nothing fancy, really. By default however, this clock does not show the seconds indicator. And if you were wondering how you can enable that, it is actually quite easy.
Step 1. Open up System Preferences from the Dock, Launchpad, Spotlight search or by clicking on the Apple logo in the menu bar.
Step 2. Now click on Dock & Menu Bar.
Step 3. On the left hand side, scroll all the way down and then click on Clock.
Step 4. Now enable 'Display the time with seconds' as shown in the screenshot below.
If you look at the top right hand corner, you'll see the seconds indicator ticking away nicely alongside hours and minutes. You can always undo this change by following the steps again and unchecking the last box.
While enabling this feature is a great way to glance at the time with extreme precision, but it can be a bit distracting at first. It might take a day or two to complete get used to it, which is absolutely normal. You're literally used to seeing hours and minutes in that space, throwing in seconds will poke your muscle memory a little. Don't act surprised if you mistake seconds for minutes the first couple of times.
But, now you know how to enable seconds in the Mac menu bar. It's an option available to everyone and enabling it literally takes under a minute.
