Annoyed by iPhone 13 Pro Camera Constantly Switching Between Macro and Wide Lens? Here's How You Can Disable Macro Mode Completely
Apple brought macro mode to the iPhone lineup for the first time with iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The implementation is rather genius as well. Instead of throwing in a dedicated macro mode camera, Apple added an autofocus system to the ultra-wide camera lens, and that lens is capable of snapping up macro shots at ridiculously close distances.
While this is an amazing feature to have, but there is a problem.
You bring the camera close to something in order to take a regular photo or video and the Camera app starts to switch between macro mode and the regular wide camera constantly. Apple added a macro mode toggle switch with iOS 15.1 to remedy the problem. But it's kinda not a 'permanent' solution as your phone will reset itself to the default behavior of automatically switching lenses once you close the Camera app and start over again. Thankfully, there's a way to completely turn off macro mode on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, and we will show you how you can toggle it.
Turn off Macro Mode Completely in iPhone 13 Pro Max
Step 1. First of all, launch the Settings app.
Step 2. Scroll down and tap on Camera.
Step 3. Enable the Macro Control toggle switch here.
Step 4. Scroll up and then tap on Preserve Settings.
Step 5. Enable the Macro Control toggle switch from here.
Step 6: Now launch the Camera app, bring the camera system close to a surface and you'll see the macro toggle switch on the bottom left. Tap to disable it as shown in the screenshot below.
That's all you had to do. Whenever you are shooting photos or videos, the Camera app won't switch to the macro lens from now on.
In a lot of occasions, I wanted to take a photo with a lot of natural bokeh in the background only for the iPhone to ruin everything by switching to the macro lens. Trust me, this has happened to you as well when you wanted to take a photo of your coffee cup up close. Now though, the Camera app won't make the automatic switch.
