Compact devices like handhelds have massively evolved over the past few years, particularly catalyzed by the newer range of APUs from Intel and AMD. However, a modder has decided to take things to the next level by creating a handheld that has NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU onboard. A Bilibili creator, Qingchen DIY, has attached a laptop motherboard to a 12.5-inch screen, bringing in specifications such as Intel's Core i9-14900HX and NVIDIA's RTX 4090 laptop variant. The gaming performance on the handheld is certainly nothing like we have seen.

The handheld managed to run God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, and Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K settings, and the demo showed that the gaming experience was a flawless one, even at high-quality configurations. The majority of modern-day handhelds barely run the above titles at 1080p with decent FPS, while in this case, with the beefy RTX 4090 laptop GPU onboard, the customized handheld brought out performance that was indeed surprising.

Regarding other specifications, the DIY handheld is equipped with 64GB DDR5-5600 memory onboard and a 2 TB SSD capacity, all integrated in the laptop's mainboard. To provide a form factor similar to that of a portable handheld, the device was equipped with the usual controls, such as the triggers and joysticks, along with the design having cutouts similar to those of a mainstream handheld.

If you are curious about the thermals on this device, it is claimed that the GPU revolved around 72 degrees under gaming, which is simply amazing considering that the laptop's mainboard relied on its internal cooling mechanism, which is different from that of a conventional laptop. But, considering the device's size, categorizing it as a handheld might be an injustice to the portable devices out there, but it is still an awesome DIY project.
