The 2400 x 1504 roughly brings a 3:2 (75:47) aspect ratio, which is very rare on gaming handhelds, but thankfully, the NEXT II will be bringing an OLED display.

AYANEO Releases Official Screen Specs for its Flagship Handheld: NEXT II Will be the First Handheld to Offer A New Aspect Ratio Display Capped at 165 Hz

AYANEO is one of the very few handheld makers who have announced a Strix Halo-based gaming handheld. Its NEXT II gaming console, which it teased several months ago, was advertised to boast an "exclusive large screen", but even after its launch earlier this month, AYANEO didn't even confirm the screen size or any display specs. Today, it officially confirmed some of the crucial specifications for the NEXT II handheld on its social media accounts.

AYANEO says that the NEXT II handheld will boast a 9-inch display, which is indeed large, but it's not the largest PC handheld display. Most modern PC handhelds these days boast around an 8-inch display size, so the NEXT II should offer somewhat better immersion in gaming. That said, the most surprising part is its resolution, which is 2400 x 1504 pixels. This is really unusual and probably doesn't exist on the handhelds yet.

Most handhelds offer resolutions like 1280 x 800, 1920 x 1200, etc. Even NEXT II's direct competitors, i.e., GPD WIN 5, and ONEXFLY APEX boast 1920 x 1200 resolution, which offer a popular 16:10 aspect ratio. The NEXT II is surely closer to 16:10, but not exactly 16:10. The NEXT II not only offers a much higher resolution, but a screen that will be taller and less wide than its rivals. At 1504p resolution, the display can run at up to a good 165 Hz refresh rate, offering a smooth and fluid gameplay experience, but that's going to be too demanding on its hardware.

Surely, it's the best hardware we have on the current market, but not enough to push the FPS to 165 Hz or even above 100 FPS in a lot of modern titles. Still, it should offer satisfactory gameplay fluidity in most games, particularly in eSports titles, and in triple-A titles with some tweaks.

NEXT II boasts a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 16-core/32-thread Zen 5-based processor, featuring Radeon 8060S iGPU that boasts 40 Compute Units based on RDNA 3.5 architecture. This is all we know about its configuration at the moment, and we don't know why it's taking AYANEO such a long time to even release its full specifications.
