GTA VI is currently headed toward a November 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X, but another console, the Nintendo Switch 2, may also get the game at some point.

The first insider to suggest that possibility was Nate the Hate, who shared last November that developer Rockstar Games was evaluating whether it would be feasible to bring the game to Nintendo's latest hybrid console. Now, there's been an update from two insiders. The first is the Spanish Nash Weedle, who wrote the following tweet:

A few hours later, another insider, Shpeshal_Nick, replied directly to this rumor:

For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard “it’s coming” but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take Two to make to try and make it happen.

"They" being, of course, Nintendo itself. Historically, Grand Theft Auto has appeared on Nintendo platforms only a handful of times, and mostly on handhelds:

The main hurdle is, of course, optimization. But GTA VI being on the Nintendo Switch 2 is perhaps less impossible than in previous generations, simply because the game already had to be optimized to run on the Xbox Series S. The two consoles aren't that far off in overall power, and in fact, the Switch 2 sometimes even outperforms it.

This would also align with rumors that even the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are getting a 60-frames-per-second mode. If that's true, then with a great deal of effort, Rockstar (and possibly a partner, including Nintendo itself) could conceivably optimize the game down to 30 frames per second.

Of course, this is still just a rumor to be taken with a heavy grain of salt. GTA VI is currently far from confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2, but the rumors are getting louder, that's for sure.
