The Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced Edition released earlier this month on PC is a significant step forward in terms of visuals compared to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of the game, but it looks like a completely different game compared to the original PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game launched back in 2013.
A comparison video put together by ElAnalistaDeBits does an excellent job showing how far the game has gone in 12 years by putting the Enhanced Edition and the PlayStation 3 release side by side, comparing draw distance, vegetation, level of detail, shadows, reflections, and more. Despite the massive differences, it is still remarkable to see what Rockstar Games achieved on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 hardware, as Grand Theft Auto V still looks pretty good on these systems, everything considered.
After having released the fifth entry in the series across three different generations, Rockstar Games is finally ready to move the series forward with Grand Theft Auto VI, which will launch this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. While we have seen very little of the game to date, the enhancements seen in the Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced Edition, such as the impressive implementation of ray-traced global illumination, could be a preview of what the next entry in the series could offer, although it could also indicate how the game will not push past 30 frames per second on base consoles.
