Apple is offering iPhone battery replacements for $29. But if you paid full $79 price for it a while back, then you might be in luck.
Your $79 Battery Replacement Might Come with a Rebate - Bringing the Price Down to $29 if You Had an Early Replacement
Apple was 'caught' slowing down iPhones to protect battery life of its range of devices. To make up for it, Apple brought down the price of out-of-warranty replacement batteries from $79 to $29 for a limited period of time. But a report has popped up suggesting that those who paid $79 for the replacement might receive a rebate, ultimately matching the current $29 price.
According to Recode:
Thune asked Apple in a letter this January: “Has Apple explored whether consumers who paid the full, non-discounted price for a replacement batter in an effort to restore performance should be allowed to seek a rebate for some of the purchase price?”
In response, Cynthia Hogan, the iPhone giant’s vice president for public policy in the Americas, told Thune in a reply released Tuesday: “Yes, we are exploring this and will update you accordingly.”
So there you have it, Apple is currently exploring the possibility and you will be rewarded with a rebate if everything goes through just fine. But given the state of things, with many lawsuits being filed against Apple due to the throttling issue, I wouldn't be surprised that a rebate will be ultimately offered. Keep one thing in mind though: there is a possibility that Apple will likely set a certain criteria that it will offer rebates only to those who got their iPhone's battery replaced in a certain time-frame. Don't expect your year-old investment bear fruit due to this fiasco.
