Just when we thought that Google's graveyard was slowing down, it appears that that is not the case. The company has just gone ahead and killed Google Podcasts. Google has now decided that it is going to shut down the application starting today.
Google Podcasts becomes the 294th victim as Google decided to kill off the service
Now, the only good news is that your data is not going anywhere until July. Google Podcasts users will be able to save their data until the cut-off date, which is in July, so if you have a list of podcasts that you want to export, you can go ahead and move it over to other supported services.
This should not really come as a surprise, to be honest. Google announced back in September that it would be killing Google Podcasts and, ever since then, a lot of people have had the chance to actually migrate their data over to other services. Now, it appears that this service is finally going down today.
All of that aside, the funny thing is that this is not the first time Google actually came out with an app/service for podcasts. Google had Google Listen, then Google Play Music Podcasts, and then Google Podcasts. We are wondering if YouTube Podcasts will become the fourth app that will eventually come out or not.
At times, I even forget just how many apps and services have been killed by Google. I mean, there is a whole website that is dedicated to keeping track of Google killing apps and services as well as products that you can check out here. At the moment, there are 294 total bodies buried in the Google Graveyard, with Google Podcasts being the latest one. We cannot really confirm which one is going to be the next in the list of services that Google has killed.
