Google has been focused on creating a seamless experience for its users across its ecosystem to reduce fragmentation across devices and enable faster rollout of features across platforms. The tech giant is also positioning itself to compete with Apple's tightly integrated ecosystem. Previously, developers had to optimize Chrome OS and Android platforms separately, leading to twice the effort. Now, the company is going one step ahead in its consolidation efforts by confirming its plan to combine Chrome OS and Android into a unified single platform.

While we have been hearing about Google working on merging Chrome OS and Android since last year but it has only been confirmed recently during a conversation with Tech Radar, Sameer Samat, president of Android ecosystem at Google inquired the journalist why they were using an Apple Watch, MacBook and iPhone and what seemed like an inquisitive query was not that simple as it was hinting at Google's growing ambitions for a cohesive ecosystem. Sameer then went on to state the reason for his inquiry:

I asked because we’re going to be combining Chrome OS and Android into a single platform, and I am very interested in how people are using their laptops these days and what they’re getting done.

This marks the first time Google has openly talked about its plans to combine Chrome OS and Android into a single platform. While no other details were shared, earlier speculations hinted at the company's plan to migrate Chrome OS over to Android instead of building a new platform altogether. Samat's question might also be an attempt to gain more insights for its project before it is officially rolled out.

Android is already being transformed into a better experience that supports large-screen devices, and it has undergone other improvements such as enhanced window management and better app adaptability. The news about Google planning to merge Chrome OS into Android at an already progressive time highlights the company's efforts to ensure users have a more desktop-friendly Android experience and a more integrated system. While some users showed concern over the merging project and were questioning if it would affect Chromebook updates, others were delighted to hear about Google's plan for consolidation.
