Google Announces Gemini Live That Will Let You Talk to Gemini As Google Showcases Project Astra

Google has some pretty neat products and services when it comes to artificial intelligence. Today, at Google I/O 2024, the company announced Gemini Live. The feature will let you talk to the Gemini mobile app, and conversational video capabilities will soon be part of Project Astra.

So, what exactly are Gemini Live and Project Astra? Well, the feature will launch from the voice icon on the Gemini app, which is available on both iOS and Android. You will then get a full-screen experience, and there will be a pretty neat audio waveform, allowing you to have a two-way dialogue with the chatbot.

Gemini Live and Project Astra are just Google flexing its AI muscles, but this is just a start

To ensure that it is as natural as possible, you will be able to speak at your own pace, and Google will adapt to your pace. Gemini will then interpret all of the input. There are ten different voices to choose from, so if you are looking for something different, then this is for you.

Let’s say you’re getting ready for a job interview or rehearsing for an important speech: Just go Live and ask Gemini to help you prepare. Gemini will suggest skills you can highlight when talking to your potential employer, or public speaking tips to calm your nerves before you step up to the podium.

The feature will be launching in the coming months and will be available for Gemini Advanced users. However, things don't just end here, as Google has ensured it is even more powerful.

Later this year you’ll be able to use your camera when you go Live, opening up conversations about what you see around you.

Another really interesting thing that Google showed off during the live event is Project Astra. This is part of Google's DeepMind, and it basically serves as a goal to build a universal AI agent that will help you in almost every aspect of your daily life. It will be able to reason with you in real-time and provide quick responses with ease.

To be truly useful, an agent needs to understand and respond to the complex and dynamic world just like people do — and take in and remember what it sees and hears to understand context and take action. It also needs to be proactive, teachable and personal, so users can talk to it naturally and without lag or delay.

Google even showed how Project Astra will work; honestly, I am pretty impressed by how good and quick it is.

Gemini Live and Project Astra are two of the coolest things that Google has managed to showcase, and I cannot wait for these technologies to become an integral part of Android. Sure, it is going to take some time before it becomes available to everyone, but I am really happy that Google is working on this technology, as there can be so many applications in the future.
