Gigabyte officially introduces the Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboard, which helped overclockers achieve insanely high memory speeds with Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors.
Monster Memory Overclocker- Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE Silently Released; Previously Pushed Memory to 12,726 MT/s
One of the strongest memory overclockers from Gigabyte has just been released. If you remember, overclockers like HiCookie have been trying to break the 12000 MT/s barrier for quite some time and many used Gigabyte Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboards, including Splave, who previously achieved nearly 12,698 MT/s of memory speed.
HiCookie broke this world record by achieving a whopping 12,726 MT/s, which shows the incredible overclocking potential of the Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboard. Such OC-specialized motherboards usually don't get launched to the masses before motherboard vendors send these to enthusiast overclockers, who then try to surpass CPU/memory speeds, which apparently seem impossible. After breaking a couple of records, Gigabyte is ready to officially launch the Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE for enthusiasts.
The Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE product page is live on Gigabyte's official website and reveals all of its specifications. The company advertises the 12,726 MT/s speed on the front page as it is its strongest selling point to enthusiasts who would want to achieve higher memory speeds. By default, the motherboard lists 9500 MT/s as the limit, but with tweaked timings and voltage, the memory speeds can be pushed further, as we saw previously.
The motherboard has an unusual design with DIMM slots on the top and the LGA 1851 socket positioned at a 90° angle compared to other models. As you can see, Gigabyte has limited it to just 2x DIMMs supporting dual-channel configuration as this helps in achieving higher speeds. For the CPU, the motherboard ships with an 18+1+2 power phase VRM design with 110A Smart Power Stages. This means not only can you try breaking records for memory clocks, but you can also try your luck with the CPU overclocking.
All the tools and utilities are provided onboard for overclocking experiments, including Error Code display, Power Button, Reset Button, Clear CMOS, Cold Reset, Protection Mode button, CPU Clock Up/Down buttons, OC trigger/Ignition button, and BIOS switch as well. If something goes wrong, users will have the option to switch to a second BIOS, which you will rarely find on most 800-series motherboards these days.
Apart from strong core features, the Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE brings powerful connectivity features such as WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5GbE LAN, Thunderbolt 4 ports, fast USB A and C ports, as well as multiple slots and headers for RGB and cooling devices. It's a complete package for owners of Intel Core Series 2 processors.
Pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed, but the motherboard should be out very soon.
