Gears of War: E-Day Lands Between Halo and Fable as WWE Sponsorship Hints at September Slot in Xbox’s Calendar

We might have a probable launch month for Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition's new installment in the third-person shooter series.

The rumor comes not from an insider but from an unlikely source: a sponsorship. During WWE Backlash on Saturday, May 9, it was announced that Gears of War: E-Day is the official presenting sponsor of AAA Triplemania 2026, the premier Lucha Libre event happening on September 11 and 13 in Mexico City.

The thing is, publishers don't sponsor major live events months before their game releases: the whole point is to reach a mass audience at peak marketing momentum. Moreover, historically, WWE event sponsorships have closely coincided with a game's launch window rather than preceding it by a substantial period, which would kind of defeat the point of the sponsorship in the first place.

With Halo: Campaign Evolved positioned as Xbox's Summer release (supposedly in late July) and Fable officially announced for this Fall, August or September appear to be the most likely launch months for the game. We'll know for sure in less than a month: on June 7, Microsoft will present its annual Xbox Games Showcase, presumably featuring a firm release date for Gears of War: E-Day. The game will also have its own 30-minute Direct show after the showcase, where we'll learn more about its specific features.

So far, we know that Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel developed by The Coalition that takes place during Emergence Day, the night the Locust first surfaced on Sera and devastated humanity. Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return as the two protagonists, depicted here as younger soldiers before the events of the original trilogy. The game aims to recapture the dark, grounded, horror-tinged tone of early Gears rather than the more bombastic direction of later entries. This received the firm praise of series creator Cliff Bleszinski.

The Coalition claimed this is their most ambitious game yet. Stay tuned for additional reports as more details become available.
