Today, NVIDIA announced a technical partnership with Gears of War: E-Day developer The Coalition to bring its RTX technologies to the upcoming third-person shooter game.
DLSS Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, NVIDIA Reflex, and Ray Tracing (for shadows, Lumen global illumination, and ambient occlusion) will all be supported for GeForce RTX Series owners. NVIDIA hasn't provided frame rate estimates yet, but early access to the multiplayer Open Beta begins on Thursday, August 6, so it's not too far off from being available to the public. It's likely that most, if not all, of these technologies will already be there. As a reminder, the early access is reserved for Gears of War: E-Day pre-order customers and PC Game Pass subscribers.
Gears of War: E-Day is definitely shaping up to be a technical showcase. The post-Xbox Games Showcase Direct was already evidence enough of that, but The Coalition's Studio Technical Director, Kate Rayner, went into great detail about the studio's technical work on this project during Unreal Fest 2026.
According to Rayner, the team rebuilt the game from scratch to properly leverage Unreal Engine 5's latest feature set. Perhaps the highlight is the MegaLights feature introduced in Unreal Engine 5.7, which allowed The Coalition to enable hundreds of light sources in any scene, all of which cast dynamic shadows. Rayner further said that MegaLights was instrumental in achieving this level of visuals on current-generation hardware. Luckily, judging from the official PC system requirements, the game also appears to be well optimized. We'll know for sure on October 6, the release date of Gears of War: E-Day.
By the way, as part of the ongoing GeForce Summer Nights promotion during the so-called Summer of RTX, NVIDIA is giving away a custom Gears of War-themed GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition graphics card. To have a chance at winning this one-of-a-kind GPU, gamers should keep an eye a look on NVIDIA's social media posts on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, Reddit, or Discord, and follow the prompts to enter to win.
